What is SCORM?

SCORM is an abbreviation that stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. “Shareable Content Object” indicates that SCORM is all about creating units of online training material that can be shared across systems. Long story short: SCORM was designed to make it easy for you to transfer content between Learning Management Systems. It’s like the ZIP file of the LMS systems.

How does SCORM work?

SCORM defines a specific way of constructing a learning management system, so the contents created there can be shared with other SCORM-compliant systems. It enables you to package your content and share it with other systems more efficiently.

What is a SCORM package?

A SCORM package is an XML file that contains all the information to transfer learning content to a SCORM-compliant LMS.

The downside of SCORM

SCORM is a standard that our LMS developers must abide by, which limits what they can create. Unfortunately, this standard is quite old and does not consider the new and innovative advancements in the industry. With its downsides in mind, we do support SCORM to a limited degree.

Is Easy LMS compliant with SCORM?

Easy LMS allows you to import and export data into a SCORM module with some restrictions.

Importing a SCORM module within Easy LMS

At the moment, it is only possible to add your SCORM module to a Course. For detailed information on this topic, please take a look at How to add a SCORM module to a Course?

Exporting a SCORM module from Easy LMS

You can export a SCORM module of your learning content with the Advanced plan. This allows you to easily import it to other SCORM-compliant systems. You can find the option to download the SCORM module from the Publish tab of your Exam and Course.

When you export an Easy LMS course as a SCORM file and add it to a different LMS, the results will also end up in Easy LMS when a participant takes the course on that other platform. Any certificates will also be generated and, depending on your settings, will be sent to the participant.

Our SCORM export feature is an experimental beta. We encourage you to try it out before purchasing a subscription. Easy LMS is not fully SCORM-compliant. With this in mind, please remember that any issues with SCORM files may not be prioritized by support.
